Ja här har vi då ett inlägg om skräck anime, det är dock på Engelska

Horror anime

Anime began at the start of the 20th century and got accepted in the mainstream culture early. Horror anime have developed trough the years and are now really popular. Even though it isn't as large as "shounen anime" and "shojo anime".

Background

Shounen means boy and shojo means girl, so it's the typical. Shounen refers to action, with adventure stories, and shojo to a more romantical theme, for example. This is just the mainstream culture tough and of course it isn't accurate always. There are many girls watching shounen, and it's just a term.

Let's go back to the subject of horror anime. In our culture, we're referring to cartoons when we're watching something drawn. It is for kids and grownups don’t watch it. People are thinking that when it's drawn, it's much more unrealistic and isn't affecting us. Of course, some of that thinking is right. But, in Asia, mostly in Japan, anime and manga influenced the culture early. A monk 1100 drew the first mangascroll.

The name anime means animation, manga means cartoon simply. Manga is a graphic novel and anime animation - movie form.  It isn't only for small children, but for grown ups too. Much of the work is very advanced, because the public is advanced. So it isn't the typical cute story or Pippi Longstocking. It can be with mature content, or much action, with a deep psychological meaning into it and of course horror.

Japanese horror is often containing psychological, or supernatural themes. Personally, I'm quite fascinated by it, because it isn't this classical story with some young girls trapped in a house and then some psycho kills them, one by one. Of course it's a good scary movie... Because it's scary! The only thing that you need is some fake blood. It's flat, or that's my opinion at least. But when it's made in a not so realistic way, it is much harder and you need as a moviemaker to know what you're doing.

Tips

Of course you need to look around to find some good movies, or anime series. There's much garbage, just like with regular movies. If you want to look at one there are some things you need to think about.

* If it is episodes, or a movie. If you're going to watch episodes, then you can't look just for one evening. Many are long, like 12, 26, 50 or even over 400 episodes!

*If you want to focus on the art, or the content, or a mix between them.

*Look for recommendations, or someone that's famous, because it's a bigger chance

to find something you like directly, and to get a good first impression of it, if you've never watched it.

There are some animes I really like, with horror contents in them. I really don't know why I like horror anime so much, I like other genres as well, but it's just that it is art, even though it can be scary, and you can feel with the characters and relate too them. I often don't even think about it being drawn. And when you're drawing, you can get a hold of these extreme emotions that is hard to get when there are actors.

Some horror animes that I recommend:

Higurashi no naku koro ni                 (26 ep)                genre: horror, gore, mystery, psychotic

Plot: It is about a boy named Maebara Keiichi. He is moving into Hinamizawa, a beautiful little village in Japan. He starts school there and directly gets some new friends that he really likes. They're always playing games, and are living a blissful life. But something is wrong, and there seems to be a bit weird things going on in the depths of Hinamizawa. He stumbles upon a murder case that occurred in the village...  Can you solve the curse?

I'm not such a fan of the drawing style, it's kind of the thing you're thinking about as a classic manga, with big eyes and a bit unproportional. But the horror sequences are still surprisingly scary, and the story is lovely. It exists 3 seasons, and an extra episode. This is the first season.

Hellsing Ultimate                        (7ep so far)       genre: horror, gore, mature, action, vampires

Plot: A secret war is raging in the night. The organisation Hellsing is acting in the darkness of England to protect the humans, but human made vampires have been coming lately, and it's getting harder. On the other hand, the Hellsing organisation has a secret weapon -their own vampire, Alucard.  He finds a girl named Seras Victoria, and after some certain events, they’re going out to protect the humanity.

There is an anime that's called Hellsing, and it's really good as well. This is a remake of it, with better animation, and a story that follows the manga, which the anime is based on. I like the drawing style better; it's detailed but sometimes seems a bit to computer made, that's a minus. Much gore, but it's really entertaining.

Some other horror animes you may like

Elfen Lied - horror drama with much gore and other mature content

Monoke hime (princess mononoke) - not really horror but a bit in that way

Spirited away  - the same thing

Umineko no naku koro ni - the same creator that made Higurashi

  Chaos; HEad - mecha, horror

  Hellsing

Death note - more of a thriller

  Monster - the same thing

Ghost hunt - if you like supernatural things

Code geass - not really horror but with some elements

                                                      jag

Nu är det helg. Känns lite konstigt att man ska gå tillbaka till skolan igen på måndag.

Har varit med en väninna och stannat över natten hos henne. Hm.. Jag gillar ordet. Väninna x)

Well well vad ska man göra nu då?

Way to go!
